Overwatch League 2019 is About to Happen

Blizzard, the maker of the popular game Overwatch, recently unveiled the schedule of Overwatch League for 2019 that will start where the 2018 season left off: with another game between Grand Finals contestants Philadelphia Fusion and London Spitfire. The latest season will have a reduced schedule of twenty-eight matches for every team rather than forty, and an augmented prize pool of USD5 million, up from USD3.5m last year.

The latest season will be divided into 4 phases of 5 weeks each, with playoff capping each of the 1st three phases. Winners of stage playoff will earn USD200,000, and the second place earns USD100,000, then for the third and fourth place will take USD50,000, and for the fifth through the eight places will take home USD25,000.

The champion team will take a USD1.1m grand prize which is a little bit higher than 2018 season which is only USD1m, followed by USD600, 000 for second place, third place will take home USD450,000, fourth place will take USD350,000 and each for 5th and 6th place will take USD300,000 and for the 7th and 8th place finisher will take home USD200.000.

2019 season will also see events held away from the usual venue for the very first time, starting with the Dallas Fuel that will host a home event on April 27 and 28 this coming year which will be participated by the following:

  • Chengdu Hunters
  • Houston Outlaws
  • Houston Outlaws
  • Hangzhou Spark
  • London Spitfire
  • Paris Eternal
  • Seoul Dynasty
  • Los Angeles Valiant

Then The Atlanta Reign will also host its own event which will be happening on the 6th and 7th of July with the:

  • Guangzhou Charge
  • Florida Mayhem
  • New York Excelsior
  • Philadelphia Fusion
  • Toronto Defiant

 

  • Shanghai Dragons
  • Washington Justice

Los Angeles Valiant will be hosting its own event happening on the 24th and 25th of August with Atlanta Reign, Dallas Fuel, Boston Uprising,  Los Angeles Gladiators, Hangzhou Spark, Vancouver Titans, New York Excelsior, San Francisco Shock, as well as Shanghai Dragons for its first home event. 

Together with the usual Livestream, an assortment of matches will be live on TV, on the XD/ABC and ESPN/Disney.

The opening weekend broadcast will cover battles between the Shanghai Dragons and Hangzhou Spark, the Boston Uprising and Houston Outlaws, and the Philadelphia Fusion against Atlanta Reign. Schedule of matches for the live broadcast will be posted shortly. The 2019 Overwatch action gets underway on the 14th of February 2019.
